Objective
A new business in content writing contacted me to create their whole brand identity, on the web only, and later as business cards as well.
The website was already existing, and had a few colors selected by the owner himself. These were requested to be present on the marketing materials I was tasked to create.
Challenges
A strong requirement was that the business should be instantly recognizable as associated with writing. The website domain had “fountain pen” in it, which must have been present in the logo and business cards, at least.
The main color was a bright orange. Pairing it up with a darker one that would be elegant, classic, and contrasting enough was another stressed requirement.
Multiple logos were necessary to be used later on social media, printed materials, and business owner’s profiles throughout the Web. These shouldn’t have been identical, respecting the aspect ratio of different social media, and shaped in a way to match the intended final use across web pages and personal profiles.
Process
I started by developing the main logo for the business. A fountain pen was the initial idea and requested by the client himself, but only the tip of the pen was chosen (encapsulating the business initials), as the most recognizable part of it. A few different shapes were created, with various texts going along it. Versions with the business owner’s name, with the business name, and both were produced, depending on the desired final use.
Once the shape of the main logo was set, a color palette was created starting from the original orange. An elegant dark blue was put to accompany the orange, with it providing mainly the background of most materials. Whiter versions of everything were also designed, using whites or transparent backgrounds.
The rest of the package containing watermarks, brand icons, visual elements, and templates followed these choices of the logo main shape and color palette.

For the printing materials, primarily the business cards, a paper of 350-400 GMS was selected as the right medium to print on. Mat-laminated and with glossy elements, to highlight the fountain pen elements. Multiple versions of these business cards were consigned, with logo, name, QR codes, and combinations of them, in gold glossy ink, and background icon in transparent gloss.
Final Design
The client received a complete set of marketing materials to set the brand identity of the business. Various logos, business card designs, social media marketing materials, mock-ups, and a brand style guide.
